CANINE VACCINES DHPP/DHLPP: This is often referred to as simply the distemper shot. In actuality, this combination vaccine shot is protecting your dog from 4 different diseases. The acronym means distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus.
The core vaccines include the DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza). Your pup will also need a rabies vaccination, which is usually around $1520. (Some clinics include the cost of the rabies vaccination.)
We recommend that puppies receive a minimum of 3 rounds of vaccines in the first year, and for ultra protection against Parvo, we recommend puppies receive a 4th round of vaccine. Ideally, the first round of vaccine is administered about 6 weeks of age.
A good dog shot record should contain information about the immunization. This includes the vaccine name, date it was given, when to follow up, and the veterinarians name. This well-constructed dog shot record template can be used by the animal clinic, veterinarian or the pet owner.
The acronyms, DHPP, DHLPP, DA2PP-L, DA2PP-C, often appear on our dogs summary report of vaccines. These acronyms stand for a combination of vaccines that protect against serious viruses. DHPP stands for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza.
Puppies should receive a series of vaccinations starting at six to eight weeks of age. A veterinarian should administer a minimum of three vaccinations at three- to four-week intervals. The final dose should be administered at 16 weeks of age.

Here are the five most important vaccines to keep your dog protected and why they should be up to date. Rabies. Rabies is required once at 16 weeks of age in puppies, then given again 1 year later (1 year, 4 months of age) and then every three years going forward. Distemper Combo. Leptospirosis. Bordetella. Influenza.
