Unfortunately, there is no button in Word to reset the program to its default settings. However, you can rename Words global template to see if that fixes its problems. If Word continues to have issues or it runs very slow, another option is to delete Words registry key.
On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, and then click Restrict Formatting and Editing. In the Editing restrictions area, select the Allow only this type of editing in the document check box.
Right-click the Word key and select Delete; then confirm that action in the dialog box that appears. The next time you run Word or any other Office program, the software will prompt you for to work through the initial setup steps and your Word settings will all be reverted to their default values.
When Word seems to change formatting automatically, AutoCorrect options are typically causing the change (such as correcting spelling errors, adding lines, changing straight quotes to smart quotes, formatting ordinals with superscript, changing internet paths to hyperlinks and applying automatic bullets and numbering).
