Apply isopropyl alcohol to the stain and blot with a clean napkin or cloth, ing to Good Housekeeping. You might want to place a paper towel under the fabric to prevent the alcohol from soaking through. You should see the stain start to dissolve almost immediately.
So why do sheets develop yellow stains over time? Simply put, body oils and fluids like sweat and skin oil soak into the fabric as you sleep and leave a residue. Even cosmetics like lotion and facial creams can cause yellowing. Washing the sheets can remove the oils that cause it, but the yellow stains still linger.
How to Get Yellow Stains Out of White Sheets? Soak your sheets before putting them in the washing machine. You can do this with a detergent-booster like Borax or OxiClean. ... Use hot water and the right amount of detergent. ... Add some baking soda or lemon juice to the washing machine. ... Let your sheets dry correctly.
If you're not able to access a washer and dryer and want to sanitize your sheets, pillow cases, or blankets—especially if someone sick is using them—all you need is some steam. (Assuming the fabric doesn't have any major stains, since steaming can set-in the stain.)
I like to pre-soak the bedding in hot water and half a cup of vinegar for about an hour. Then I wash them as a normal load, but add half a cup of baking soda or lemon juice along with the detergent. These are both powerful natural whiteners.
Blot the stain from the outside in. Place sheet over a bowl of cold water and immerse the stain only. Cover entire stain with soda water. Ensure the stained area is completely immersed. Add table salt to the area. Cover with boiling water. Let soak for half an hour. Pop in the wash with ⅓ cup of baking soda.
You can make up a mixture of half water, half vinegar, but it's also safe to soak them in undiluted vinegar. Leave the pillowcases to soak for about 30 minutes and then wash as normal.
Vinegar and Baking Soda Mixture for Cleaning Firstly, mix half a cup of baking soda with half a cup of vinegar. Then put your white pillowcases in the washing machine. Next, add water to soak the pillow covers. When they are soaked in water, add the cleaning mixture to the tub of the washing machine.
Sweat. We all sweat at night, and over time sweat can seep through your pillowcase and onto your pillow. Eventually, this will cause your pillow to yellow. Sweat stains are the most common reason for pillow yellowing.
Your white sheets naturally turn yellow because of sweat and body oil, and can stain over time if you don't take proper precautions. To prevent yellow stains on white sheets, wash your sheets once a week or more if possible to consistently remove buildup — every four to five days is most ideal.
