Before a teeth cleaning at the dentist, your dental office should have an updated perio chart on file. The clinician will use a periodontal probe to spot probe the posterior teeth. After determining the best type of cleaning based on perio charting and dental x-rays, they will start cleaning your teeth. An ultrasonic scaler is often used first, followed by hand instruments like scrapers. The scaler uses water and ultrasonic vibrations to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from your teeth.
