Simply sponge on Murphy Oil Soap, scrub and wipe the log cabin wall down. No rinsing required. On the other hand, soap and water might be enough to get the job done. A spray bottle makes application even neater.
In most cases, media blasting is the best way to remove stain quickly and easily. Over the years, log refinishing and refurbishing companies have experimented with a variety of media: sand, corncob grit, glass pellets, walnut shells — even baking soda and dry ice.
We recommend cleaning logs with a combination of water and a wood-friendly detergent, i.e. TSP (Trisodium Phosphate Cleaner). We want to stress that we DO NOT recommend power-washing logs to clean them. Applying water under high pressure can be detrimental to the “health” of a log building.
Wooden decks are highly vulnerable to severe damages when you subject them to power washing. The pressure that the pressure washer exerts on the deck surface leads to splintering. This problem mainly occurs when there is a section on your deck where the woods show the signs of split apart.
Log Cabin Exterior Walls Scrub the surface with a soft car wash brush with a long handle. Rinse thoroughly with clear water after washing and scrubbing, then let the walls dry for two warm days before examining the surface.
“Low-pressure settings are ideal for wood.” You can do the same by keeping the washer tip at some distance and lowering the wand up to 12 inches from the surface. Use a sweeping motion and pivot the wand with your arms to clean evenly.
Whatever you do, never use a pressure washer on log cabin walls. Almost all cabins are made of softwood. It's too easy to damage the wood surface or accidentally drive water deep between the logs.
Simply sponge on Murphy Oil Soap, scrub and wipe the log cabin wall down. No rinsing required. On the other hand, soap and water might be enough to get the job done. A spray bottle makes application even neater.
Vinegar and olive oil – combine equal parts and mix them. Use a clean towel and rub the mixture on the stain. You want to rub in the direction of the wood grain. Toothpaste – cover the water stain with toothpaste and rub over the stain until it's gone.
In most cases, we recommend removing the old stain or coating by blasting the logs or wood with crushed glass. This media is as fine as table salt, silica free and 100% environmentally friendly. Once the old coatings are removed and the logs are brought down to bare wood, a new stain can be applied.
