MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER OF THE NAVY MIKE STEVENS RECENTLY TOOK TIME OUT FROM HIS TRADITIONAL DUTIES TO CONDUCT A UNIFORM INSPECTION OF THE U-S NAVY CEREMONIAL GUARD IN WASHINGTON D.C. AS I WAS DOING THIS INSPECTION I WAS HAVING FLASHBACKS FROM TWENTY YEARS AGO TO WHEN I WAS A YOUNG DIVISION CHIEF INSPECTING MY OWN SAILORS IN FRONT OF MORNING QUARTERS. I AM CONFIDENT THAT OUR CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS AND OUR FIRST CLASS PETTY OFFICERS AND DIVISION OFFICERS ARE OUT DOING SIMILAR INSPECTIONS THROUGHOUT THE NAVY ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE TRADITION OF HOLDING OUR PEOPLE TO HIGH STANDARDS IN THE NAVY IS ALIVE AND WELL STEVENS PRESENTED A CERTIFICATE AND COIN TO MEMBERS OF THE CEREMONIAL GUARD WHO PASSED THE INSPECTION WITH NO DISCREPANCIES. THERE WERE NO FAILURES, AND FIFTEEN OF THE INSPECTED SAILORS WERE FLAWLESS. MCPON HOPES TO MAKE THIS INSPECTION AN ANNUAL EVENT THAT CONTINUES EVEN AFTER HE LEAVES OFFICE.
