This software uses a lot of Excel formulas but  it also uses Excel VBA code so it does require a full version of Excel on a PC or a Mac.  All right let me start with a very high level demonstration overview of the software so that  you can decide whether this might be something you can use at your organization and whether or  not it's worth continuing to watch this video. All right so we start with a large number of  parameters that allow you to customize this for use at your church or your organization.  Things like the name of the church, the address, whether you're reporting monthly or weekly,  those kinds of parameters that you can adjust. Cash donations are considered income when it comes to financial statements like your statement of cash flows.
What's the best format for your donation receipt? The name of the organization. A statement confirming that the organization is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, along with its federal tax identification number. The date the donation was made. The donor's name. The type of contribution made (cash, goods, services)
A donation definition in accounting is any item that someone gives freely and without compensation to an organization. As of this writing, the IRS has issued a temporary suspension of limits on charitable donations.
The organization may utilize this amount for meeting revenue or capital expenses. However, when it receives the donations for a special purpose then it needs to credit this amount to a separate fund before disbursing it.
To be contemporaneous the written acknowledgment must generally be obtained by the donor no later than the date the donor files the return for the year the contribution is made. The written acknowledgment must state whether the donee provides any goods or services in consideration for the contribution.
The accepted way to record in-kind donations is to set up a separate revenue account but the expense side of the transaction should be recorded in its functional expense account. For example, revenue would be recorded as Gifts In-Kind – Services, and the expense would be recorded as Professional Services.

Here's a list of what to include in each of your receipts: Your organization's name. Your donor's name. Your recorded date of the donation. Your recorded amount of the donation. Your organization's 501(c)(3) status. Your acknowledgment no goods/services were exchanged for the donation.
Make sure to debit your Donation account and credit the appropriate Bank/Cash account....To do this: Set up the charitable organization as a new vendor. Create an expense account dedicated to donations. Record the cash donation as a check or bill in the name of the charity.
You can deduct donations you make to qualified charities. This can reduce your taxable income, but to claim the donations, you have to itemize your deductions. Claim your charitable donations on Form 1040, Schedule A.
