The IRS accepts returns that are stapled or paperclipped together. However, any check or payment voucher, as well as accompanying Form 1040-V, must not be stapled or paperclipped with the rest of the return, since payments are processed separately.
Use Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, and follow the instructions. You should amend your return if you reported certain items incorrectly on the original return, such as filing status, dependents, total income, deductions or credits.
Double-sided printing can only be configured through the printer itself. If you arent seeing the check box, the printer selected at the top is not capable of printing on both sides. Note: The IRS and state taxing authorities do not accept mailed paper returns that are printed on both sides of the paper.
Desktop - Print All Returns on Form 1040 Configuration. Printer/Copies Setup. Edit Individual Print Options. Select any print option from the drop down box at the top of the table. Change the number of copies to 0. You will be asked, Would You Like to Clear the Number of Copies for All Print Options? Select Done.
Click the Your Federal or Your State Return. This will open the document in a PDF format. Right click the document and click Save as or Save target As (depending on your browser). If this option is not available, open the PDF and choose to Save As directly from the PDF viewer.
Just note that each form within the return can be double sided but you cant print different forms sharing the same page. So for instance you have a 1040 and a schedule D, the 1040 can be double sided and the D can be double sided but they can not share a page.
If you file an amended tax return (IRS Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return), the IRS should make any necessary adjustments and issue the refund (generally within 120 days). 3.
Its generally preferred that both sides of the paper are used for substitutes and reproduced forms since this results in the same page arrangement as that of official forms. While each form can be double-sided, different forms cannot share the same page so for example, each page of a Form 1040 can be double-sided.
There are two pages of the 1040. The first page asks for your basic personal details. This includes your name, address, Social Security number (SSN) and filing status. If youre filing jointly, you also need to add the name and SSN of your spouse.
Heres a step-by-step guide. Step 1: Collect your documents. Gather your original tax return and any new documents needed to prepare your amended return. Step 2: Get the right forms. The IRS form for amending a return is Form 1040-X. Step 3: Fill out Form 1040-X. Step 4: Submit your amended forms.
