[MUSIC PLAYING] ABBY RANDALL: An Exit Ticket is a short assessment given at the end of class that the students must complete before they can leave class for the day. So on a scrap piece of paper please put your name. These are Exit Tickets. Exit Tickets can be anything from a prepared one or two question little quiz that youve typed up or written, or it can be as simple as throwing a question up on the overhead and giving them scrap paper and having them solve it. They like the routine. They know exactly what to do. They know, at the end of the day, theyre going to be held accountable. Its a really quick way for me to assess if students learned the concept of the day. I often use it as the you-do part of guided practice, so once the students have practiced together, and weve done it together, then they are able to show me if they can do it on their own. Typically a teacher will provide a question at the end of class for students to respond to before leaving. Students respond on either a piece of paper or using a digital exit ticket tool.
Exit tickets can use a variety of question types, for example, some questions might involve a rating scale, another might be more open-ended asking students to write their specific concerns or ideas or reflection. Another might ask a student to respond to a specific questions or prompt.
Exit tickets collect feedback on students understanding at the end of a class and provide the students with an opportunity to reflect on what they have learned. They can be helpful in prompting students to begin to synthesize and integrate the information gained during a class period.
The teacher poses a question, problem, or task to the class. Students work independently to complete the exit ticket question. This can be done through written or verbal responses.
An exit ticket - also called exit slip - is a sheet of paper or, in BookWidgets case, a digital widget with questions that each student answers individually at the end of the lesson. The questions can be about the lesson content (what they liked about it, what they remember), or about how they feel after the lesson.
Exit ticket ideas and examples What is one thing youd like me to explain more clearly? What was the most important thing you learned in todays class? What is the most difficult question you have about what you learned today? How could the knowledge you learned today be used in the real world?
How to Use. Decide what youd like to find out about students learning at the end of the lesson. Write a question or pose a problem on the Exit Ticket, or post the question or problem for students to see. Set a specific amount of time for students to complete the Exit Ticket.
You will want to make sure that exit tickets are anonymous if you are soliciting any feedback on your teaching practice, so that students are able to answer honestly. However you decide to collect information, let students know whether their submissions will be anonymous or not.
