My name is Emma Fofanah; I am the lead for the swing shift at Sterile Processing Department at OHSU. Sterile processing is the heart of the hospital. Everything comes here. After theyve done the surgery, they bring all the dirty equipment down here to be cleaned. We clean them, decontam, disinfect, and send them up to the clinics. You have to be able to do multiple tasks. Problem solving. You have to be able to do detail work. But the most important thing is having those instruments ready for the first cases in the morning. If the doctor doesnt have those trays, they wont be able to do the surgery. Outside of work, I like summer. Its warm, I like to go outside and do my gardening, if I have a good crop I share it with my neighbors, I bring some for my co-workers! Summer, thats what I do. *laughs* I do community work too.
