The CAM is a standardized assessment that is used to determine if the patient or resident has signs and symptoms of delirium. The Confusion Assessment Method is completed by coding patient or resident behaviors that were observed during the Brief Interview for Mental Status, or BIMS interview. The BIMS interview, together with the CAM assessment, help providers determine needed support and identify possible delirium behaviors.
