[MUSIC PLAYING] Up there it says exit ticket. The most important thing I learned about subtracting decimals was-- dont tell me. Write it, OK? You started-- I started it for you, and youre going to complete it. An exit ticket is just a piece of paper that the students will fill out and give to me on the way out. Usually it is answering a question that I have post that day or just completing a sentence. And I use the exit ticket to see if theres any misconceptions that they have about the concept that Im teaching that day. And itll help me to see, oh. You didnt put this, or those students that do remember what we had talked about. And its usually, I use the exit ticket after I have explained the concept a couple of days, and they should have a little time to practice the concept. And then itll help me to clarify any misconceptions they may have. They like the exit tickets. They like giving them to me on their way out. Its like, just something else. Like, here. The 3-2-1 exit slip strategy is a method of summarizing ones learning with a basic format in which: Students write three things they learned in todays lesson. Next, students write two things they liked or two interesting facts about the lesson. Finally, students write one question they still have about the lesson.
How to Use. After the lesson, have each student record three things he or she learned from the lesson. Next, have students record two things that they found interesting and that theyd like to learn more about. Then, have students record one question they still have about the material.
To get the most out of the exit ticket process, questions should: Be short. Where possible be open ended. Linked to the learning intentions (and success criteria) of the lesson. Focus on skill(s) or concept(s) being taught. Allow students to demonstrate understanding. Challenge students to synthesise what they have learned.
A version of a verbal exit ticket is something called Wise Words. During this activity, students can either write down the most important concept from the lesson that they believe should be shared with others, or they can form small groups and tell the other students what they learned.
In general, this is a strategy that may help any student reading something challenging. In response to a reading, try telling students that they should aim to come up with three main ideas or concepts, two connections to other readings, the self, or the community, and one question to clarify, reflect, or discuss.
What Is the 3-2-1 Strategy? A 3-2-1 prompt helps students structure their responses to a text, film, or lesson by asking them to describe three takeaways, two questions, and one thing they enjoyed. It provides an easy way for teachers to check for understanding and to gauge students interest in a topic.
Some possible prompts or questions to use for the ticket to leave: Name one important thing you learned in class today. What did you think was accomplished by the small group activity we did today? Write/ask one question about todays content - something that has left you puzzled.
About This Strategy You can activate your students prior knowledge at the beginning of a unit using the 3-2-1 strategy by asking your students to write three things they already know about the topic, two things they want to learn about the topic, and one question about the topic.
