Dirty light fittings not only look nasty but will reduce your light levels and waste energy. The slow build-up of dust and dirt on light bulbs can reduce their light output by up to 30% and if you add greasy, bug ridden shades you have a built in dimmer switch whether you want it or not.
A sink with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap is all that is usually needed to clean glass light fixtures. Allow them to soak for a few minutes before wiping them down and rinsing. Use a dry towel to wipe them completely dry, especially the inside.
How to clean a light bulb involves some basic steps: Ensure that the light is switched off. Allow the light bulb to cool down. Remove from light fitting. Use a dry microfiber cloth to simply wipe the bulb. If a damp cloth is needed to shift extra dirt, make sure not to get the metal part wet.
Scrub your chrome using the pith of the lemon. It wont hurt to apply a little pressure here. Switch to a fresh lemon as needed. If you have a lot of hard water staining or buildup, let the lemon juice sit on the fixtures for three to five minutes.
A soft dry cloth or a cloth dampened with a mild solution of liquid soap and water works best for cleaning metal components (notice a theme here?). Beware that many fixtures have been lacquered to protect the metal finish over time, so you want to be as gentle as possible to avoid removing the lacquer or damaging it.
DO: Know Your Fixture Type Remove the bulbs and wipe with a soft cloth. Note where each crystal goes for reassembly. Place any pendants, crystals and saucers in warm, soapy water. Wipe each piece gently and dry quickly to avoid water spots. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the base. Reassemble the pieces.
Use a soft cloth to wipe away dust and leave your LED fixtures clean and shiny. Warm water: If your light fixtures are only lightly soiled, a damp cloth will likely be enough to get them clean. You can dip your cloth in warm water and gently wring them out to avoid saturating the fixtures as you wipe them down.
Combine one part vinegar to three parts water in a spray bottle. Put on your gloves and spritz a clean microfiber cloth with your solution. Use this to wipe your crystals or globe. The gloves help prevent any smudges.
