Hello and welcome to this presentation, Cleaning and Organizing Data. This presentation is part of a larger project made possible by a grant from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services. This presentation will cover some common strategies for how to turn your raw data that you may download from a survey tool or from a library system and turn it into useful data so you can analyze and visualize it. Well start with a brief overview of data cleaning and organizing, and why its important. Then well talk through getting to know your data followed by some demonstrations and guided practice in Excel to split and concatenate data, filter and remove duplicates, and create and use lookup tables. Everything that Ill demonstrate in Excel also matches how youd go about this work if youre in Google sheets, with a few minor exceptions.
