[Music] hey Engagement fans welcome back to the engagement studio Im a Maltese a member of our insights team here at quantum workplace today Im going to talk about performance improvement plan one-on-ones a performance improvement plan is a good idea if you have an employee whos failing to meet expectations who has inconsistent performance over time or if you have an employee whos failing to live out your organizations core values the performance improvement plan should give your employee an opportunity to improve its critical that they know what needs to improve and by win and that they feel accountable for improving their performance but having a performance improvement plan one on one conversation can be intimidating so before we talk about the plan itself lets talk about how to make that meeting a little less intimidating so first you want to make sure that youre being upfront with your employee they need to know going into this conversation that youre going to be talking

A PIP should include information on acceptable performance levels, specific and measurable objectives that are achievable, relevant, and time-bound, guidance on what management will do to assist the employee, details on progress meetings, and consequences for not meeting the objectives of the plan.
A poor performance review may leave you confused and wondering if your best bet is to quit your job. Unless your boss has something else in mind, you dont necessarily need to leave. The first thing you should do is look at the review with an open mind.
How to respond to a performance improvement plan Have a positive attitude. Take responsibility. Request extra time. Ask for help. Double your effort. Check in regularly. Talk with your team. Set your own goals.
Dont Quit Because Youre on a PIP. Force Your Employer to Fire You. No matter how miserable you are on the PIP, dont quit your job, if at all possible. If you quit rather than get fired, you wont be eligible for unemployment benefits.
Dont resign while serving your PIP. If you resign then you wont get 3 months of your salary because onus comes to you in exiting the company. Wait till your final PIP review meanwhile start searching for another job. Communicate during your interview that you are on bench and can join immediately.
HR can provide guidance on whether a PIP is appropriate and can provide templates and documents that managers can reference when drafting a PIP. Once the document is drafted, HR can also work with the manager to ensure that it reflects the goals they have in mind.
A background check only verifies employment and dates of employment. A PIP would never come up on a background check.
