How Long Does It Take to Evict a Tenant in Ontario? Unfortunately, eviction is not a speedy process. It can take anywhere from 85 138 days to evict a tenant after an eviction notice has been given. If the tenant needs to be removed by the Sheriffs office, the timeline could stretch to 168 days.
If the tenant cannot pay by the end of the 14-day period, the landlord can then apply to the Landlord and Tenant Board for an eviction and a hearing will be scheduled. Moran-Venegas says its best to get advice from community legal services when preparing for a hearing.
You dont have to pay for 14 daysand if you dont pay in 14 days the landlord has to apply for a Hearing Date which can take 6 months or more (and you can pay right up to the date you will be evicted).
However, even in states where landlords decide their grace period lengths, its typically no more than a few days. The most common amount of time is three to five days before fees are incurred. Landlords are able to charge tenants late fees as soon as the grace period ends.
This five-day grace period for unpaid rent is an important legal protection for tenants, but it is not something that can be relied on every month. If you repeatedly pay your rent late the general rule is least three times within a 12-month period your landlord can evict you for cause, using a One Month Notice.
