The amount of money you can save with a home energy audit will be based on how much you spend every month on utilities. Improving your homes energy efficiency wont ever get you to zero, but it can reduce your bill dramatically.
The assessment, also referred to as an energy audit, provides you with a top-to-bottom look at where your home is wasting energy. You will learn the root cause of any drafts, inconsistent temperatures, heating and cooling system failures, or other problems you may be experiencing.
There are three parts to an energy audit: evaluation, testing, and efficiency recommendations. Once the audit is complete, the auditor will provide you with a report outlining energy consumption, a final energy grading, and home improvement suggestions to cut energy costs on energy bills.
The energy assessor will do a room-by-room examination of the residence, as well as a thorough examination of past utility bills. Walk through your home with the assessor and ask questions. Many professional energy assessments will include a blower door test and a thermographic scan.
Home Energy Audit Checklist Check the energy efficiency of electrical equipment, appliances, and systems. Take photo evidence of areas that need proper insulation and other opportunities for improvement. Review energy consumption habits and make recommendations to reduce utility expenses.
Energy audits can include analysis of electricity and natural gas usage, and may include lighting, heating and cooling systems, building envelope and insulation, appliances, refrigeration, signage, windows and doors and even landscaping.
Preliminary Energy Use Analysis. All three levels of audits require a Preliminary Energy Use Analysis which involves the following: ASHRAE Level 1: Walk-through. ASHRAE Level 2: Energy Survey and Analysis. ASHRAE Level 3: Detailed Survey and Analysis.
