On the Data tab, in the Outline group, click Group Group Rows or Group Columns. Optionally, if you want to outline an inner, nested group select the rows or columns within the outlined data range, and repeat step 3.
Lets say, you grouped Columns are A and B. Select Columns A and B and in the Name Box (Left to Formula bar), you can give it a name say Fees. So, whenever you will type Fees in Name Box, it will immediately position your cursor there suggesting that this is the group which you need to open.
On the Data tab, in the Outline group, click Group. Then in the Group dialog box, click Rows, and then click OK. Tip: If you select entire rows instead of just the cells, Excel automatically groups by row - the Group dialog box doesnt even open. The outline symbols appear beside the group on the screen.
To group columns in Excel, perform these steps: Select the columns you want to group, or at least one cell in each column. On the Data tab, in the Outline group, click the Group button. Or use the Shift + Alt + Right Arrow shortcut.
On the Layout tab, in the Labels group, click Data Labels, and then click the option that you want. For additional data label options, click More Data Label Options, click Label Options if its not selected, and then select the options that you want.
Columns are identified by letters (A, B, C), while rows are identified by numbers (1, 2, 3). Each cell has its own nameor cell addressbased on its column and row.
Once you have the columns selected, right-click on one of the column headers and select Group from the menu that appears. Excel will then create a new outline level that you can expand or collapse just like any other outline level in Excel. You can also group rows together in a similar way.
If your data is arranged in a tabular form, you can quickly create names for each column and/or row based on their labels: Select the entire table including the column and row headers. Go to the Formulas tab Define Names group, and click the Create from Selection button.
