my name is Lee Weisenberger and Im Dean of admission and financial aid at Bates College so for Bates given that weve been testing optional for gosh close to three decades or were just on the anniversary of three decades for us weve come to realize that three and a half years almost four years tells us a whole heck of a lot more on a transcript versus three and a half maybe four hours on a Saturday morning when a student might be taking X given standardized tests and so what we mean by that or really what I would like to say we all think but mean by that is that a transcript meaning the courses a student takes how well they perform in those given courses is telling us a much bigger story and illustrating for us all that theyre not only capable of but curious about and in some instances really showing their potential for success in the college classroom so at beats we read every student contextually we read them within the context of their high school the courses that have been avai

Academics Grade Point Average (GPA) The most important step you can take to make yourself a competitive candidate is, of course, to work hard in school. Test Scores. For schools that consider standardized test scores, those typically rank second in importance. Clubs. Sports. Community Service. Jobs/Internships.
Calculate points by course: Multiply the point value of each course with a final grade of A+ through F by its number of semester hours. Example: An A (four points) in a regular course (4 semester hours), equals 16 total points. An A in GER 1025 (8 semester hours) equals 32 points.
P indicates Pass (A-, B and C will automatically be replaced by P when the Pass/No Pass option has been requested. A+ and A will be recorded as A+ and A, not P). NP indicates No Pass (D+, D, D-, and F will automatically be replaced by NP when the Pass/No Pass option has been requested).
To calculate the GPA, the unit value for each course in which a student receives one of the above grades is multiplied by the number of grade points for that grade. The sum of these products is then divided by the sum of the units. The cumulative GPA is the sum of the grade points divided by the sum of the units.
Under such registration, the only final grades available to the student are P (pass) or F (fail). To receive the grade of P, the student must be doing work comparable to a C or better. If a course is taken under the Pass/Fail option, the grade of P or F will be permanently recorded.
Calculate the grade points you earned for each completed course by multiplying the grade value by the courses credit value. Example: If you earned a B in a 3-credit course, your earned grade points for that course would be 9. Calculate your total grade points achieved by adding together the individual grade points.
High school transcripts are necessary for almost every college application. They give college admissions officers a quick overview of a students academic performance and help them decide who to admit.
When you pass a pass/fail class, your GPA remains unaffected. This is a good thing! However, if you fail the class, you could potentially harm your GPA.
A transcript evaluation should provide answers to these basic questions: What level of education did the student complete in their native country? What diploma/degree (if any) did the student earn? Did the student attend a legitimate and recognized institution?
Grade points are points per course credit assigned to a passing grade, indicating the numerical value of the grade. Dividing a students total grade points earned by the total course credits attempted determines a students GPA.
