We all make mistakes when we type. Luckily, Word comes with several different tools that can help you proofread your document, and correct any mistakes. Lets take a look. To run a full spelling and grammar check, go to the Review tab click the Spelling and Grammar command and a pane will open on the right. From here, Word will walk you through the errors in your document. To correct an error, click one of their suggestions then click Change. This will update your document, and also take you to the next error automatically. Now, spell check isnt perfect. Sometimes itll say a word is spelled wrong when it isntlike peoples names, street names, and other unique proper nouns. If that happens, you have a couple different options. Ignore will skip the word one time without changing it. Ignore All will skip the word every time it appears in your document. Last updated Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, at 10:59 a.m. This article is based on legacy software. To automatically correct common errors as you type, use the options in the AutoCorrect tab of the AutoCorrect dialog box to set up automatic correction of capitalization errors and commonly misspelled words.
Word marks potential spelling errors with a red squiggly line, and potential grammatical errors are marked with a blue squiggly line. Right-click on the underlined word or phrase and choose a correction, or ignore the suggestion.
In any Word document, click File and then Options. Open the Proofing tab and uncheck the Ignore words in UPPERCASE box. Press OK. If you have Check spelling as you type enabled, all capitalized words not in the Office dictionary will immediately display red underlines.
More than likely, the spelling mistakes are underlined in red in your document. Anything with a wiggly green line under it is a grammatical error, (or what Microsoft Word insists is a grammatical error).
