This text discusses how Mariners use textual tracings, locks, and notes as their main source for updating charts. Tracings and blocks provide graphic representations of the textual information for quick and accurate updates. It is crucial to cross-reference them with the textual N/M to ensure correct changes are applied. Entries of new additions or withdrawn charts should be recorded as a permanent record. Tracings come in two sizes and display chart numbers, update locations, and dates for easy reference when updating charts.
