The FDC Act specifies the base fee for establishment registration for each year from FY 2023 through FY 2027; the base fee for an establishment registration in FY 2023 is $6,250.
A Medical Device Establishment Licence (MDEL) is issued for the activities of manufacturing (class I), importing or distributing (selling) medical devices for human use in Canada.
The MDL is a product approval, while a MDEL is a permit for the company/distributor/importer itself. Obtaining an MDL is comparable to the US FDA 510(k) process.
The OMA recommends that physicians charge $30.00 for the first 20 pages and $0.25 per page thereafter to cover the cost of copying, printing, reproducing or transmitting medical records including electronic medical records (EMR) when printed on paper.
For FDA user fees 2022, the registration fee for each establishment is $5,672 (in United States dollars). There are no waivers or reductions for small establishments, businesses, or groups. The annual establishment registration fee must be paid between October 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
As of April 2022, the fee for the examination of an MDEL application is $4,737. However, Applicants who meet the criteria of a small business will be eligible for a 25% reduction of the fee payable. A small business is defined as: any business, including its affiliates, that has fewer than 100 employees OR.
