Any updates or corrections to the Secondary Application should be sent as an Applicant Update (in PDF) via the Status tab of the Secondary Application.
You will not be able to go back into this section to make any edits after submitting your application. To avoid formatting issues, we recommend that you draft your essay in text-only word processing software, such as Microsoft Notepad or Mac TextEdit, then copy and paste your essay into the application.
Application Submission All application materials become the property of Harvard Medical School. If you would like to provide an update to the Committee on Admissions, our office will accept updates through the Application Updates tab on the admissions portal. Applicants may provide two updates to the Committee.
Your update letter shouldnt be long at all. Stick to one page in length or just under one page. Medical school admissions committees have many primary and secondary application materials to read, so be courteous of their time.
Updates to your medical school application will only be accepted when you submit your secondary application.
Reapplicants shouldnt reuse the same personal statement when they reapply. This is because the story you need to tell is now different. Admissions committees expect you to weave your reapplicant story into your personal statement.
At its core, an effective update letter accomplishes the following: It reminds medical schools that you still exist. It mentions any new and relevant professional achievements since submitting your application. It makes clear and concise connections between your new activities and the medical schools mission.
You may add a new letter after your application has been submitted, but you cannot delete or change existing letter entries.
