(upbeat music) - People always ask me questions about the suits that I am wearing and I want to take the time out to make a video dedicated to just that. Picking out the perfect suit and dressing it up to perfection. First things first, fit is king. Doesnt matter what brand youre wearing. Doesnt matter how much you spent on your suit, if it doesnt fit, its a bad suit. I see a lot of guys getting a suit thats one size too big and the result of that is the shoulders of the suit flop over your natural shoulders and you get this dent. An easy way to check if the suit shoulder fits you right is to go up against the wall. Your suit should make contact with the wall first followed by your shoulder. If theres any bunching of fabric in between that your suit is too big. If your shoulder hits the wall first before the fabric of the suit the suit is too tight. Its important that you are able to comfortably cross your arms without tearing the fabric across your back. Moving on down the sui

Taking in a suit jacket, vest, or blazer is commonplace, and will often be under $100sometimes as low as $20. Double-breasted jackets and jackets with three seams will cost more than normal two-piece jackets. Suit sleeves are adjusted from the shoulder, so expect to pay $20-$40.
How Many Sizes Larger or Smaller Can You Go? The first rule of suit alterations is that taking away or reducing the amount of fabric is doable, but you cant make something bigger, at least not by much. Exactly how much depends on what allowances of extra material were under the seams or hems of the garments.
Yes, but youll have to find a great tailor and pay him a lot. Its actually more work to make a jacket without a lining, since all of the seams are revealed and need to be clean finished. A lining is really used to clean up all the dirty work on the back-side of the sewing work.
Here is a guide to exactly what a tailor can do for your jackets, pants, and shirts. Jacket. Narrow the Sleeves. Shorten the Sleeves. Adjust Jacket Length. Reduce the Shoulder Width. Replacing the Buttons. Suppress the Waist. Pants.
Getting Your Moneys Worth Since getting your suit tailored improves its overall fit, your suit will last longer, and youll be able to wear it more. Keep in mind that when it comes to tailoring a suit, the short-term cost is outweighed by the long-term benefit.
A suit jackets length can be altered. However, it cannot be made longer only shorter. Its a risky alteration because the spacing of the pockets and button holes cannot be changed and if a jacket is shortened too much, you run the risk of compromising the balance of the garment.
Pretty much everything can be altered in a suit except the shoulders. Obviously the jacket cannot be lengthened; but the sleeves can be lengthened or shortened, the waist taken in or let out (both trouser and jacket), the crotch taken out/in and the trouser legs lengthened/shortened.
