The SOW is agreed upon and signed. Now, the statement of work document works as both the formal document and the practical action plan when initiating and implementing the project. It ensures that both parties have established a common ground and have an understanding about the full life cycle of the project.
A terms of reference (ToR) is a document which articulates the scope of work for a taskforce and how the people identified in the ToR will work together in the pursuit of a shared goal.
The statement of work (SOW) is a legally binding document that captures and defines all the work management aspects of your project. Youll note the activities, deliverables and timetable for the project.
SOW means the document specifying, without limitation, the scope, objective, and time frame of the Work that Supplier will perform for Cisco. Work Order means an individually negotiated document that is executed by both Parties and which authorizes a Project, if any, in an indefinite quantity Contract.
The use of the terms TOR and SOW essentially refer to the same thing and serve the same purpose. For professional services contracts, it is more appropriate to use the term TOR as a common practice.
The vendor typically prepares a proposal for the scope of work to be performedits a marketing document, with only an overview or outline of the services. Usually it isnt written as a contract and it tends to contain material that isnt appropriate in a SOW.
There are three main types of statement of work: Functional SOW. Performance SOW. Design SOW.
Terms of Reference (TOR) means the document included in the RFP as Section 5 which explains the objectives, scope of work, activities, tasks to be performed, respective responsibilities of the Client and the Consultant, and expected results and deliverables of the assignment.
The different types of procurement documents include: Request for proposal (RFP); RFPs request a detailed proposal on how the work will be accomplished, who will do it, etc. Invitation for Bid (IFB);
An effective SOW will include, among other things, work details, schedules, terms, and expected outcomes, so its imperative that its done correctly and doesnt leave anything out.
