Uploading to arXiv before sending to journal gives a chance for feedback. Also, if your work is accepted by a journal but not open access, your work will be visible to all and hence, increases citation.
Effective titles in academic research papers have several characteristics. Indicate accurately the subject and scope of the study. Avoid using abbreviations. Use words that create a positive impression and stimulate reader interest. Use current nomenclature from the field of study.
arXiv is not a journal; therefore articles on arXiv cannot be regarded as publications per se. Typically, papers deposited on this repository are pre-publication versions and authors can add a DOI to their pre-print version on arXiv after it has been published.
Moderation process and endorsement Although arXiv is not peer reviewed, a collection of moderators for each area review the submissions; they may recategorize any that are deemed off-topic, or reject submissions that are not scientific papers, or sometimes for undisclosed reasons.
We only accept submissions from registered authors. If you are a new user or are submitting to a new category, you may be required to find endorsements. All submissions are subject to a moderation process that verifies material is appropriate and topical.
Some are copyright to the publisher, but the author has the right to distribute them and has given arXiv a non-exclusive irrevocable license to distribute them. Most are copyright to the author, and arXiv has only a non-exclusive irrevocable license to distribute them.
On Hold. Your submission was identified by arXiv staff or moderators as needing further attention. Submissions may be put on hold for a variety of reasons, ranging from questions about proper classification, pending moderator approval, presentation issues, copyrighted PDF, etc., to editorial concerns.
You can cite everything that you want, including arXiv contributions. However, you might want to look for alternatives. In case of review/overview articles you often will be able to find some and use them instead without risking plagiarism.
Yes, you can list unpublished papers on your CV, especially if it's available online to confirm (e.g. on arXiv). It still shows research potential, research interests, etc. Make sure to list it accurately (e.g. “unpublished”; “in progress”; “preprint”). Don't say it's published if it isn't.
