hi my name is Deborah R Richardson of Deborah R Richardson LLC and I work with you to help you clean up your vendor data clean up your vendor processes so that you can pay the right vendor now this weeks vendor Master file tip of the week is changes on the 1099 misc and the 1099 NEC for the 2022 tax year because you know the IRS always has to change something but this year its good so at least one of the changes is good so were going to start with the 1099 misc 2021 versus 2022 the old and the new side by side so you can see here this is copy B the copy for the recipient that the first big change is that the 2021 version that had the tax year typed out now does not it has 20 and then a field where you can enter in the tax year which makes this a continuous form and so you know how in the past when you order your tax year forms for right your 1099 misk you will order more for that tax year in case you know I dont know you put them in the printer the wrong way you had to reprint the

If you receive a Form 1099 you think is wrong, you can ask the payor to correct it. They can destroy the incorrect one if they have not already sent it to the IRS. If it's too late, they can issue a corrected form. Issuers face penalties for errors, but most of those penalties apply to failures to issue the forms.
IRS imposes substantial penalties for 1099, including penalties for late filing, failure to file, failure to file correct 1099, failure to file 1099 electronically, and failure to provide recipient copies.
If you made a mistake in reporting your name, TIN, or both, you do not need to file a corrected 1099. This applies to both paper and electronic corrections. Instead, write a letter to the IRS.
It's not too hard to amend a 1099. You just need to fill out a corrected one and include that copy as well as a new form 1096 when you mail them out. Specifically, you should put a checkmark in the “corrected” box on the top of form 1099. This will let the IRS know that the firm has been corrected.
Fortunately, if you submit an incorrect 1099, you can re-file an error-free 1099 form in little time to avoid 1099 penalties, as long as you submit the corrected form before the filing deadline.
If you receive the missing or corrected Form W-2 or Form 1099-R after you file your return and the information differs from your estimates, you must file Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. For additional information on filing an amended return, see Topic No.
Use Form 1096 To let the IRS know that a correction has been made to a 1099, you need to send them an updated copy. Don't just send them another 1099 though. You should send it along with Form 1096, which is titled Annual Summary and Transmittal of U.S. Information Returns. Filling out the form is easy.
To correct Type 1 errors, file the correct form with the correct amount, code, checkbox, name or address and check the “CORRECTED” box (generally located at the top of the form). Submit the corrected 1099 form to the recipient and prepare the red Copy A to send to the IRS with the Form 1096 transmittal if paper filing.
You can correct the name on copies of Form W-2 and Form 1099 that you use to file your return. Please include a copy of Form W-2c, Corrected Wage and Tax Statement from your employer or corrected Form 1099 with your tax return.
In most cases, the name must remain unchanged. However, if you were the recipient of the royalty income during the year and there is a spelling error with the last name, then we may be able to issue a correction before filing with the IRS on March 31.
