Palm Beach County's Animal Care and Control is implementing new measures to make it more difficult for pet owners to surrender their animals. Moving forward, owners must show proof that their pets are up to date on vaccinations before they can be surrendered. If they are not vaccinated, owners will have to pay for vaccinations and wait two weeks before surrendering. This change aims to protect animals that may be unvaccinated, ensuring they are not exposed to illness in the shelter environment. Captain David Walesky stated that this rule could potentially save pets' lives by giving owners time to reconsider or seek resources to address their challenges.
