You have nine attempts in a powerlifting meet to achieve the highest total possible. These nine attempts are broken into three attempts each for squat, bench press, and deadlift. With these limited number of attempts, you might wonder how to best select your numbers to be successful.
In all lifts, the referee must count as No Lift any unfinished attempt in which the bar has arrived at the height of the knees. In all lifts, if the bar stops in its upward path before arriving at the shoulders (clean) or arms length (snatch and jerk), the attempt shall be rendered No Lift.
The technical changes themselves are as follows: During the setup on the bench, the athlete is not allowed to place his or her feet on the bench. The lifter must lower the bar to the chest or abdominal area whereby the underside of the elbow joint is level with (or below) the top of the shoulder joint.
The first change is that the underside of the lifters elbows must be level with or below the top surface of each respective shoulder joint during the downward movement of the lift. The second change is that the lifter cannot place their feet on the bench during their setup.
If you miss all three attempts on any given lift, you are disqualified from the meet. Choose your weights wisely. There is no cursing on the platform. If you cuss on the platform you are disqualified.
If you wear a certain type of shoe to squat in while training, you should wear the same shoe during the competition. Changing equipment of any kind can drastically change your technique.
COMPETITION RULES The order of the lifts is (1) SQUAT, (2) BENCH, (3) DEADLIFT run in a flight system. After all lifters complete all three squat attempts, the meet progresses to bench press. All athletes complete all three attempts at bench then all athletes move on to the deadlift.
6) Causes for Disqualification in the Dead-Lift: Any downward movement of the bar or either end of the bar during the lift. Failure to stand erect with the shoulders in an erect position. Failure to lock the knees straight at the completion of the lift.
