one common misconception is if somebody is a do not resuscitate then we stop treating them completely do not resuscitate means if somebodys heart stops beating on its own then we do not push on their chest we do not shock their heart we just let them die peacefully if somebody comes to the hospital and has say pneumonia and needs a course of antibiotics and they tell us that they are do not resuscitate that means that we give them the appropriate treatment up until the point that their heart stops if you do not want to be resuscitated or treated for a medical condition you have to be clear with your physician and your care team what exactly your wishes are
