hi im rich and im here to give you a little bit of talk about xml schema definitions and how we use them to create kind of better xml uh this is a topic that hadnt really been i i had a lot of trouble finding information on but um one particular book from oreilly is uh which uh is is shown here is a particularly good one where i got a lot of information off of so the the motivation of this thing is that we want to create an xml file right we want to define an xml file in in some way um but we need to to kind of describe whats in it so you can create xml programs that just have a bunch of a bunch of tags in them without a plan but that can cause lots of problems because suddenly every file is kind of different and this is certainly useful in things like um uh like creating a configuration file or something like that but for the most part um you probably want some sort of more formal description of whats going to be in there and you can very quickly start to find different reasons

The STUFF() function deletes a part of a string and then inserts another part into the string, starting at a specified position. Tip: Also look at the REPLACE() function.
We can use FOR XML PAH and get the output using the following query. Alternatively, we can use the STUFF function in SQL Server along with the FOR XML PATH to retrieve the same result. We use the STUFF function to replace a part of a string with substring at a specified position.
How to import data from an XML file to SQL Server In Object Explorer, right-click a database, point to Data Pump, and then click Import Data. On the Source file page, select the XML import format. On the Destination page, select a server connection, a database and its schema.
SQL Server provides the XQuery feature to querying XML data type or querying with the XML column with the XPATH. Using XQuery, users can Insert, Update and Delete with the XML nodes and node values in an XML column.
The FOR XML clause can be used in top-level queries and in subqueries. The top-level FOR XML clause can be used only in the SELECT statement. In subqueries, FOR XML can be used in the INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements. FOR XML can also be used in assignment statements.
We can use FOR XML PATH to prepare a comma-separated string from the existing data. Lets create an Authors table and insert a few records into it. In the data, we can see we have an ID column and the AuthorName column. If we just select the records, it gives the output in the following format.
The STUFF function inserts a string into another string. It deletes a specified length of characters in the first string at the start position and then inserts the second string into the first string at the start position.
Use the FOR clause to specify one of the following options for query results. Allow updates while viewing query results in a browse mode cursor by specifying FOR BROWSE. Format query results as XML by specifying FOR XML. Format query results as JSON by specifying FOR JSON.
