The landlord must deliver the security deposit within 15 days to the Residential Tenancies Tribunal, along with a Security Deposit Remittance Form. Once received, Service New Brunswick will send the tenant an official receipt.
Your landlord or agent holds your deposit during the tenancy. If they have agreed to return it, you should not need to contact the scheme. Your deposit should be returned in a reasonable time, for example, 10 days. Your landlord can refund your money by bank transfer, in cash or by cheque.
You can get your deposit back by suing in small claims court. If the landlord misses the 21-day deadline, he forfeits the right to deduct anything. If he keeps the money in bad faith, you can sue for up to 3 times the amount of the deposit.
If the tenant and landlord cannot reach an agreement, the tenant can make an application in Provincial Court Civil or the Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service for the return of the deposit. Tenants may also consider filing a complaint with Service Alberta.
RETURN OF SECURITY DEPOSITS The security deposit refund and statement of account, if there are any deductions, must be delivered or postmarked within 10 days of the day the tenant gave up possession of the residential premises.
Under California law, a landlord must return the renter's security deposit, with an itemized statement of deductions, within 21 days after the renter has surrendered the rental property to the landlord (that is, returned the keys and vacated the property).
