Most states will recognize your Texas teacher certification through a reciprocity agreement. However, it's important to keep in mind that becoming credentialed to teach varies by state. While you may hold teaching credentials in Texas, you may have to meet additional requirements in the state you wish to teach.
In Washington, educators must obtain a Washington certificate in order to serve in the public schools. Certificates or licenses from another state or jurisdiction do not cover employment in Washington.
To transfer teacher certification from another state to the state of Florida, candidates must either hold a valid standard (not temporary or other class) teaching certificate in another state or must have a current certificate issued by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
Teachers certified in another U.S. State or Territory may be certified to teach in New York City classrooms. It is important to understand that the New York State Education Department (NYSED), not the NYC Department of Education, determines eligibility for certification and evaluates applications for certification.
If you obtained your bachelor's degree from a foreign country, you can still apply. In order to qualify to pursue a Texas teacher certification, you must submit your current credentials for verification. You must obtain an original course-by-course evaluation by a recognized foreign evaluation service.
