The AICPA Peer Review Program is dedicated to enhancing the quality of accounting, auditing and attestation services. The Program is a systemic evaluation whose value in serving the public interest and firms lies in its educational and remedial nature.
The purpose of a peer review is to evaluate the firms audit and accounting practices and to ensure that our systems and procedures are in full compliance with AICPA professional standards. This program is required to be completed by an independent evaluator every three years.
Guidance for performing and reporting on quality control materials reviews will no longer be included. Instead, quality control materials providers may choose to have an examination of the materials conducted in ance with the attestation standards established by the AICPA.
What is Peer Review? The Government Auditing Standards manual, also known as the Yellow Book, stipulates that each audit organization must obtain an external peer review every three years. and that this review should be conducted by reviewers independent of the audit organization.
A matter is a circumstance identified by a peer reviewer that warrants further consideration by the peer reviewers. Matters are identified through the peer reviewers evaluation of the design of the reviewed audit organizations system of quality control and/or tests of compliance with that system.
Threats are circumstances or relationships that can compromise a members compliance to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct and/or their independence. There are various categories of threats including self-review, advocacy, adverse interest, familiarity, undue influence, self-interest, and management participation.
