i have a great conviction that any writer who wants to publish a book theyve got to come to conferences theyve got to get the education theyve got to have a critique group find a mentor and all of this stuff costs money and it all means you you take time away from home and family and you might need a babysitter or someone to walk your dog or to feed your husband but this is business and it amazes me how many writers refuse to do these things because they think that because theyre in a creative pursuit their regular laws of business dont apply now if you write a book that makes you a self-employed business owner nobody owes you anything and its a long learning curve some people get lucky on their own but most people dont and they need to learn the craft and learn the business very few people naturally already have that knowledge
