To edit a document which is shared with you through Google drive, you need to have editing permission to that document. You can request permissions and then you can simply open the document and edit it. Request Access from Google Sheets/docs.
To transfer file ownership in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides: On your computer, open Google Drive. Open a Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides file. At the upper right corner, click Share. Next to the recipients name, click the Down arrow. Transfer ownership.
Unfortunately, you can only set a new owner for files created in Google apps. In other words, you can change the owner of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings and My Maps. You can transfer ownership of a folder as well, but changing the owner of the folder wont change the owners of the files within that folder.
You can invite another person with a personal Google Account to take ownership of your files and folders. You cant invite another person with a work or school account to take ownership of your files or folders. The person you invite to own the file or folder must accept your request to complete the transfer.
Change Ownership of a File or Folder Click on the file/folder. Click Share. Share the file with the designated person and click the Down arrow. Click Make owner. Click Save changes.
