this video is going to be a quick overview on how to search phrases in google patents im john eagle im a patent attorney and long time user of google patents lets get into it the first step is to go to google patents which can be found at patents.google.com advanced how do you search for phrases go to the google patents main search bar and type in a phrase phrases typically have quotes but quotes arent required here the term mower is combined with the phrase wingnut in quotes when you search with quotes google is going to look for an exact copy of what you have in quotes this is the narrowest type of searching the next question is how broad do you want to search the phrase no punctuation is very broad if you use quotes youre going to get a very narrow search parentheses are somewhere in between each case is a little bit different but you can see that the number of results changes pretty dramatically as you change the punctuation this is a powerful way to change your search results
