Contract modification is a generic term meaning any written change in the terms and scope of the contract. The terms modification and change are often used interchangeably. Contract modifications (frequently referred to as mods) are common actions for many contracting professionals.
You can change the terms of the contract before the parties sign it and it will be considered part of the initial contract. You can also make simple changes like correcting typos just before the contract is signed. Just make the change in pen and be sure that each party initials it.
A contract addendum is a post-contract attachment that modifies, alters, or totally changes some of the terms of a previously established contract. Typically, this adds something new to a preexisting document. Once all parties named in a contract agree to an addendum, it becomes a part of the new contract.
Changing the terms of a legally binding contract is only done by an agreement between the parties. It can only be done by one party if the original agreement states that one party can make changes without seeking the other partys agreement.
For a solid contract amendment, make sure to: Keep the legal language thats included in the template. Be clear which areas of the contract are being amended. Spell out all of the specifics, and dont allow for any guesswork. Point out that everything else in the contract remains legal and binding.

How to create a contract amendment Pinpoint what you want to change or add. Look at your contract and write down the parts you need to change. Date and title the new amendment. Next, add the current date and the title and date of the original agreement to the document. Draft and describe the changes. Finalize the changes.
A contract amendment is a change, correction, clarification, or deletion to an agreement you have already signed. An amendment leaves your original agreement substantially intact.
