Command Hooks are the renters best friend, as they are strong and securely hold all manner of objects. They are available as standard hooks or as picture hanging strips, which can be easily fixed to paintwork, wood and tiles, however it isnt recommended to fix them to wallpaper as it may rip when you remove them.
The best choices for rental properties are typically satin and semi-gloss paint. These durable paint finishes roll onto walls beautifully and also make wiping off crayon, scuff marks, dirt, and even grease easy.
Even if a place is rented, you can still decorate it the way you want and hang up all the nice art youve been collecting. And yes, you can do it without violating the lease and losing your security deposit. Below are some surprisingly smart and easy ways you can do this.
While most apartment owners do allow tenants to paint, its important to find out for sure before you start. First, take a look at the lease to see if there are any restrictions or rules about painting. If its not clear in the lease, ask your landlord or management office what the guidelines are.
Walls: Start by moving all furniture out of the room, or towards the center to keep it out of the way and safe from paint splatters. Then, dust the walls and trim with a rag or clean mop so that they are clear of debris. Tape off the border around all areas that are to be painted for easy trimming.
Ask your landlord if they mind you putting up a few wall shelves. Many are fine with this as long as you ask first, and you may have to fill in any holes when you leave. But adding some wall storage will mean you can put your mark on the house by storing books, pictures, DVDs, and more.
Paint and go If you are dead set on painting the walls, you can buy paintable paper, which sticks to the walls enabling you to paint on top of it. Then, when its time to move out, you can simply remove the paper and the walls will return to their original condition.
