Avi Silverberg, head coach of Team Canada’s powerlifting team for over a decade, discusses the Canadian Powerlifting Union's (CPU) trans inclusion policy. The policy allows athletes to participate in events based on their self-identified gender, meaning a biological male can compete in women's events if they declare that they identify as a woman. Furthermore, it states that individuals do not need to disclose their trans identity or history to the CPU or its representatives. Essentially, the CPU accepts an athlete's word regarding their gender identity for competition purposes.
