It will work, assuming that a) its not locked to a different carrier than the new SIM and b) it can operate on the frequencies used by the new carrier. But the contract doesnt end - youre still obligated to finish paying it off. If you dont, the phone goes on the black list.
This is important to keep in mind. If you are still under contract with your existing provider for either a SIM only deal or a phone-and-tariff contract, you will probably have to see the rest of your contract out before you can switch. You technically could pay the remaining months off.
Once youve decided which provider and plan to switch to, contact the new provider to request a service transfer. Dont cancel your current service first then you might lose your number. Thats it! Your new service provider will notify your current provider of the transfer and cancel your old service immediately.
Switching carriers when you owe money If youve got an outstanding balance with your current carrier, theres good news: you can absolutely still switch phone companies. However, youll need to settle your balance before you do so. Typically, that means paying a final bill.
Do Not Cancel Your Service. You may be excited to ditch your current carrier, but do not cancel your service until you have successfully completed the transfer process.
You may request service from a different company at any time. When changing companies: Review your current contract. Your contract may contain early termination fees and/or outstanding balances that you are obligated to pay.
There may be an upgrade fee depending on where you are in your contract. As long as your phone is in good working condition, you can swap your current phone and sign up to a new 24-month plan.
Yes! You can sell a phone thats financed, so long as you fully intend to continue making payments to the carrier or other entity from which youve financed the device, and as long as nothing in the agreement between you and that entity prevents you from doing so.
