It is recommended that the application be completed at least 48 hours prior to the appointment, and that applicants make sure to indicate the correct Embassy or Consulate where the appointment will be held. Incorrectly completed applications may delay the visa process.
What should I should I do? If you have a name spelling mistake in your visa appointment letter but your DS-160 form and passport details are correct, you should try to get the mistake corrected before your visa interview.
If you have already scheduled your interview and paid the visa application fee, you need to log into your visa appointment account, click Update profile and add the new DS-160 confirmation number on your appointment.
The DS-160 can be unlocked by the consular officer for purposes of making certain changes, but the passport number in the CEAC (Consular Electronic Application Center) cannot be changed.
When checking in for your appointment, let the consular employee know that you would like to correct an error on your application. They can advise you as to whether the mistake is material to your application and how to proceed. The employee might be able to correct the error directly in the consular database.
After completing a new DS-160, please log into your ustraveldocs account, update the new DS-160 barcode number on your appointment at least three working days prior to your appointment date, and print out a new Appointment Confirmation Sheet.
Can I reuse the DS-160? Yes, you can use information from a previously submitted DS-160 to populate some fields on a new form. There are two ways that you can do this. First, if you plan to apply for a visa in the future, save your DS-160 to your hard drive or a disk using the instructions in the FAQ above.
