When youve found the best plan to meet your needs, there are simple steps to prepare for switching your phone. Check your current contract. Gather personal information. Research and compare new phone carriers. Choose a new service provider. Purchase a new phone if needed. Request to transfer your phone number.
A carrier isnt required to accept your old number, so check the policy before canceling your current plan. If you decide to keep your phone number, your current plan will need to remain active until you port in at the new carrier.
9 steps to switch phone carriers Check your current contract. Gather personal information. Research and compare new phone carriers. Choose a new service provider. Purchase a new phone if needed. Request to transfer your phone number. Cancel your old service. Return, keep, or sell your old phone.
Once youve decided which provider and plan to switch to, contact the new provider to request a service transfer. Dont cancel your current service first then you might lose your number. Thats it! Your new service provider will notify your current provider of the transfer and cancel your old service immediately.
Once you request service from a new company, your old company cannot refuse to port your number, even if you owe money for an outstanding balance or termination fee.
Contact your new network or service provider quoting your temporary number, the number you wish to Port and the PAC provided by your old network. Your existing number will then be transferred within a few working days, sometimes even the next working day.
