We recommend that, at the middle and upper school levels, every teaching period be a minimum of 40 minutes (also not including passing time). We believe these timeframes are the shortest possible for students to truly absorb information from a lesson.
1. Standard Periods. In a standard bell schedule, typically between 5 to 8 class periods are divided evenly across the day, ranging from 40 to 60 minutes. Each class period is generally equal in length, and students attend each of their classes every day.
Modified Block Schedule Students would attend certain periods every day, typically for a shorter amount of time per day and some periods on alternating days, typically for a longer amount per day. For example, students attend periods 1 and 7 every day of the week for 45 minutes.
zero period (plural zero periods) (education) A high school class that is offered early in the morning, before the scheduled start of the school day.
To add or remove a period go to School Years Terms Select the School Year Dates. 3. Modify the number of periods in the dropdown.
All class periods start and end at the same time every day, meet at the same period in the same sequence, and are the same length, generally between 45-60 minutes. A 2006 study found that 62% of high schools use this traditional standard period schedule (Washington School Research Center).
Many high schools continue to use the traditional schedule with six or seven periods a day (sometimes eight), each lasting from 45 and 60 minutes.
A 7th grader has 7 mandatory periods.
