Red Cross Emergency First Aid, and Red Cross Standard First Aid are now officially recognized by Worksafe BC as equivalent to OFA 1.
The Victoria WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 1 course is designed to teach you how to respond to the most common and most life-threatening workplace first aid emergencies, including CPR, bleeding, shock, and sudden medical emergencies.
The Occupational First Aid course equips students for emergencies in a high risk work environment and provides the skills necessary to be responsible for a first aid room.
Emergency First Aid CPR C (equivalent to OFA Level 1) Intensive Care First Aid.
The difference is based on the number of hours and first aid content covered. The Standard First Aid Course is a two day course, minimum 14 hours. The Emergency First Aid Course is a one day course with a minimum of 6.5 hours.
First aid assessment for adults Start by assessing the persons responsiveness and breathing, active EMS and send someone to get the first aid kit and an AED. If the person is breathing and responsive, ask for consent to help the person and quickly assess for life-threatening conditions.
There are three levels of occupational first aid (OFA) and one OFA certificate endorsement. The level of first aid services required for a workplace depends on the number of workers, distance to medical aid, and industry hazard rating.
Effective September 1 2018, both Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid (EFA) and Standard First Aid (SFA) will be recognized as equivalent to Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1, also known as Workplace Emergency First Aid (WEFA).
