LSILs look slightly abnormal when looked at under a microscope. They are usually caused by infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) and are found when a Pap test or biopsy is done. LSILs usually go away on their own without treatment, but sometimes they can become cancer and spread into nearby tissue.
Data analysis of the trials findings is ongoing. ASCUS stands for atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance and LSIL for low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions.
ASC-US is the most common abnormal Pap test result. ASC-US stands for atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance. Squamous refers to the type of cells that make up the tissue that covers the cervix. LSILThis means that the cervical cells show changes that are mildly abnormal.
You should have the next test in 5 years. You may need to come back sooner if you had abnormal results in the past. Positive HPV test result: High-risk HPV was found. Your healthcare provider will recommend follow-up steps you need to take, based on your specific test result.
ASC-HASC-H means that changes in the cervical cells have been found that raise concern for the presence of HSIL. ASC-H stands for atypical squamous cells, cannot exclude HSIL. AGCThis means that changes have been found in glandular cells that raise concern for the presence of precancer or cancer.
ASCUS ~ Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance This diagnosis means that some of the cells on your Pap smear did not look entirely normal but did not meet diagnostic criteria for a lesion. Your doctor may either repeat your Pap smear, or perform a colposcopy.
ASCUS is not cancer nor precancer and may or may not ever lead to cancer. Even so, the changes warrant further investigation and monitoring. With ASCUS, your healthcare provider may either repeat the Pap smear or perform other diagnostic tests and procedures, such as a biopsy.
Progression of ASCUS in LSIL is found in 9.6% (N-12), and regression from LSIL in ASCUS is 12.6% (N-14), which shows that a grade of regression of LSIL in ASCUS is bigger by 3%. Progression of ASCUS and LSIL into HSIL is not found in patients with low-risk HPV 6 and 11 infection.
