so heres a simple demonstration of authentication services specifically papal also known as password authentication protocol tap is a basic but weak authentication method that uses a non encrypted password exchange so heres our PAP works so you enter your username in this case Hubert and password in this case its uber 101 hit the login button and the client sends in the username and password across the network in the clear to the PAP server so the PAP server already has a database with the with the clients username and password and then it compares the two and from the two sets of information and if they match then the client receives a message indicating that their authentication was like success and theyre given access to the network

PAP, or password authentication protocol, is a point-to-point protocol (PPP) authentication method that uses passwords to validate users. It is an internet standard (RFC 1334), password-based authentication protocol. Using PAP, data is not encrypted. It is sent to the authentication server as plain text.
The Password Authentication Protocol (PAP. PAP validates users by password. PAP does not encrypt passwords for transmission and is thus considered insecure.) is an authentication protocol in which the user name and password are sent to the remote access server in unencrypted form.
PAP uses a two-way handshake process where the client sends their credentials to the server, the server verifies them, and the user is authenticated.
CHAP is a stronger authentication method than PAP, because the secret is not transmitted over the link, and because it provides protection against repeated attacks during the life of the link. As a result, if both PAP and CHAP authentication are enabled, CHAP authentication is always performed first.
PAP uses a two-way handshake process for authentication using the following steps. Client sends username and password to server. The client wishing to establish a PPP session with a server sends a username and password combination to the server. Server accepts credentials and verifies.
The Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) provides a simple method for the peer to establish its identity using a two-way handshake. After the link is established, an ID and password pair is repeatedly sent by the peer to the authenticator until authentication is acknowledged or the connection is terminated.
CHAP is a stronger authentication method than PAP, because the secret is not transmitted over the link, and because it provides protection against repeated attacks during the life of the link. As a result, if both PAP and CHAP authentication are enabled, CHAP authentication is always performed first.
PAP uses a two-way handshake to authenticate client sessions, while CHAP uses a three-way handshake. Both authentication processes are common, but one is more secure.
Password Authentication Protocol, or PAP, and Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol, or CHAP, are both used to authenticate PPP sessions and can be used with many VPNs. PAP works like a standard login procedure. The remote system authenticates itself by using a static username and password combination.
If connecting to the Internet requires a User Name and a Password, make sure that you enter them in the correct format. The User Name should be in an email address format (i.e. username@isp.com). If you are having problems retrieving your Password, contact your ISP for assistance.
