You should start a new paragraph when: When you begin a new idea or point. New ideas should always start in new paragraphs. If you have an extended idea that spans multiple paragraphs, each new point within that idea should have its own paragraph.
You may start a new paragraph for a minor idea shift or for transition or emphasis. You may join related paragraphs together to make longer ones. If you are having trouble deciding where to break your material into paragraphs, try making an outline first. Each major step in your outline can then be a new paragraph.

Rule 1 TOPIC CHANGE - Just as in writing nonfiction, begin a new paragraph when a new topic takes place. If the author describes the setting and moves on to describing the characters thoughts or reactions to the setting, create a new paragraph.
To begin, select the paragraphs you want to change and on the Home tab, select the option you want in the Paragraph group. By default, most text is aligned along the left margin, but you can center it, align it along the right margin, or justify it so its aligned along both margins.
