So Ive been getting a lot of questions recently about how to better control page numbering in a Pages document. Sometimes you want to skip pages or have a cover page. So lets take a look at how to get exactly the page numbers that you want. Pages has, of course, two modes. Word Processing and Page Layout. Lets start by looking at Word Processing. Im going to create a blank document and Im going to paste in some text here to fill out the document. So as you can see Ive got a bunch of pages here. Lets go back to the top and add page numbering. From the Current Position sub menu, select Plain Number (see below image). Subsequently, change the page number format to Roman numbers.
To change the numbering format, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. Select the format you want, and then select OK. To change the numbering alignment, go to Header Footer Page Number Page Number.
Change the page number sequence Click next to the page number you want to change. Click the Start new header/footer here button. Click Document in the toolbar, then click Section. In the Page Numbering section, Select Start at and enter a new starting number.
Start page numbering later in your document Go to Insert Header or Footer Edit Header or Edit Footer. Select Different First Page. In the header or footer area, you should see a label on the first page that says First Page Header. Select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit.
