Yes, you can play organ music on the piano quite easily. What makes it easier to do is that the piano has more octaves, and can capture all the note range composed in organ parts. All of the pedal parts of the organ can be played in octaves in the left hand.
Organ2/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible) is a musical piece by John Cage and the subject of one of the longest-lasting musical performances yet undertaken. Cage wrote it in 1987 for organ, as an adaptation of his 1985 composition ASLSP for piano. A performance of the piano version usually lasts 20 to 70 minutes.
A 639-year-long John Cage organ piece had a very rare chord change. And it was quite an event. Organ2/ASLSP at St. Burchardi Church, Halberstad. Picture: PA. Composer John Cage at the piano. The John Cage Organ Foundation Halberstadt decided to play the piece for 639 years, to mark the time between the first documented permanent organ installation in Halberstadt Cathedral, in 1361, and the proposed start date of 2000.
On September 5th, 2001, a specially built organ installed in Halberstadt, Germanys St. Burchardi Church began its rendition of Cages Organ/ASLSP (As Slow As Possible), an eight-page composition written by the composer in the 1980s with the intention of, as the title suggest, being played as slow as possible.
Entitled As Slow as Possible (ASLSP), the composition by the late American composer John Cage is due to be played out over 639 years at the St. Burchardi church in Halberstadt in Germany.
The longest music piece in the world is being performed in the city of Halberstadt in Germany: John Cages composition for organ ORGAN2/ASLSP - As SLow aS Possible - is resounding here in an extreme interpretation of 639 years, that means until the year 2640!
While pianos have just one set of 88 keys, organs have 2 or 3 levels. Sometimes, they have up to 5! It varies based on how many octaves the instrument has. The keys of a piano are long and resistant, while those of an organ are shorter, narrower, and more responsive to a light touch.
